Plan for my next shoot.

BEFORE:

Get props for backgrounds of images and make props. This could include objects such as mugs, cups and saucers, wooden planks (and painting/varnishing them), extra ingredients of the food for decoration around the main focus of the photos.

DURING:

Use inspiration from the artist David Munns or Philip Webb.

Ideas for Backgrounds

 

Here are some ideas of how to set up and choose different backgrounds for each shoot.

The background of the images make a difference in the message of the image, in the contrast between the colours within the image and in the quality and strength of the image. The background of the images adds to the image, giving the viewer an idea of how the food could be set out and the context in which you could make the food.

 

Background inspiration image

 

This image shows that you don't need large amounts of material, in order to take an image of food. This is because with food photography, images are often taken quite close up and often use a shallow depth of field. Also this image shows the colour matching between the two types of material, with little hints of the same colour. However, try and use materials that aren't the same, this image above shows this, as it uses a patterned material and a plain material.

 

More Inspiration For Props and Backgrounds

 

 

This link above has lots of good and useful advice on how to make images more interesting just using props with many different textures. Use this for inspiration of props that are needed for future photo shoots.

Here are some examples of different textures that could be used.

 

 

Could paint on wooden boards or add varnish to add contrast and colour to the images. Making the colour of the foods link with the backgrounds.

 

 



Layout Designs

Even though this layouts have portraits worked within the food photography. These layouts contain food photography, showing the outcomes of the food and the preparation of the food. However, the food is presented in a way in which it is a part of a recipe book without the recipes.

 

 

Some of these double page layouts work well and can be used as inspiration for my final outcome.

This is an interesting way of presenting my food photography, maybe instead of making an actual book, but multiple little packages containing the images of different food and their preparation as well as the outcomes.
